Wordfence live traffic data not sent: wp_remote_post() failed with cURL error 52

Wordfence attempts to post live‑traffic information to noc1.wordfence.com using wp_remote_post. The request ends with cURL error 52, which indicates an empty reply from the remote server. No HTTP headers or body are received, so Wordfence cannot record the traffic data.

The empty reply results from a broken TLS handshake, blocked outbound connection, or mis‑configured proxy. When the server cannot complete the HTTPS request, Wordfence reports the error and stops updating live traffic.

Common Causes

Outbound firewall block
Server firewall or hosting WAF blocks connections to Wordfence IP ranges on ports 80/443.
Out‑of‑date cURL/OpenSSL
cURL version older than 7.34 or compiled without TLS support cannot complete the handshake.
Incorrect proxy settings
WP_PROXY_HOST or WP_PROXY_PORT points to a proxy that does not forward the request, resulting in an empty reply.
SSL verification conflict
Wordfence disables verification for its bundled CA bundle, but the host forces verification, causing the TLS negotiation to abort.
