Site is already linked to another Wordfence Central account

Wordfence stores a unique identifier called centralSiteId in the wp_wfConfig option. When the identifier belongs to a different Wordfence Central account the plugin blocks any new link attempt. The block appears as an error on the Add New Site screen and prevents the site from appearing in the Central dashboard.

Stale connection data often remains after cloning, migration, or incomplete uninstall. Caching layers may serve the old identifier, extending the conflict across environments.

Symptoms

[dashicons-warning]
Error on Add New Site

[dashicons-admin-site]
Connection Issues badge
Dashboard displays a badge next to Connection Issues.

Admin notice
Admin notices appear on the WordPress dashboard indicating inability to connect to Central.

Common Causes

Existing centralSiteId in database
The wp_wfConfig option contains a centralSiteId which was created when the site first linked to another account.
Site cloning or migration
A copy of the site inherited the original centralSiteId during cloning, staging, or backup restore.
Server cache serving stale data
Object cache, Redis, or CDN often still serves old connection data after migration.
