Wordfence attempts to write a temporary file during updates, firewall writes, and scans. The operation fails when the PHP process cannot create or write the file.
The failure usually results from missing write permission, an invalid temporary directory, full disk, or a PHP restriction such as open_basedir. The error stops Wordfence from saving its atomic write file and disables the firewall.
